The Miss German-America of Philadelphia Competition for 2011-2012 has begun. Young ladies interested in participating in this year's competition should contact their clubs and organizations. The application deadline for this year's competition is May 22, 2011.

Dear Clubs and Organizations!

The Competition begins again! GUIDELINES for Candidate, with the changes of May 2010

• Be a member of the sponsoring club or organization
• Ability to speak ‘survival level’ German at least: please inquire if unclear
• Woman, single, 18 to 27 years of age by September 30, 2011
• Will come to interviews, events, as well as write a Baron von Steuben Essay.
• Be ready and enthusiastic about representing the German community of Philadelphia during the year of office; is guided by the Queen Selection Committee throughout and aided by the club’s CONTACT PERSON.
• The First Princess becomes Queen the following year. The other princesses, members of the Court, receive recognitions and may compete again.

BENEFITS TO CANDIDATES

• Contacts to Philadelphia’s German Community as well as foreign guests.
• A traditional DIRNDL: given by the sponsoring organization.
• A ball gown: from the Steuben Parade Committee.

Other privileges and responsibilities are part of the Agreement with the Steuben Parade Committee. The Queen receives $1,000. and the First Princess $500. All contestants are acknowledged at German Day. The Court is available the whole year.

• The new Court becomes a part of the circle of friends of the German Community and past Courts.

WHAT TO DO

After the organization has identified a candidate, please choose a CONTACT PERSON within your organization for the whole Selection Process. Candidate sends Application. This person is very important to the candidate and the Parade Committee’s work of ambassadorship.

TIMETABLE

• May 10, earlier, please: Applicant identified, application due by deadline
• Before or on May 22: Essay Writing at the Cannstatter Volksfest - Verein
• Saturday, June 11: German-American Day at the Cannstatter V.V. for the final competition judging and events.
