German-American community says goodbye to dedicated member, Monica H. Fasnacht

November 5, 2011 From Tom Markow

Monica H. Fasnacht, 53, of Wrightsville, PA, died suddenly on Monday, October 31, 2011. She was the wife of James C. Fasnacht and the mother of Elise C. Fasnacht, both of Wrightsville.

Born in York, PA, she was the daughter of the late Orest and Waltraud (Goebel) Holinowsky. A 1980 graduate of Millersville University, she spent her junior year studying at Phillips University in Marburg, Germany. She was a Certified Dietary Manager and served as the Director of Admissions and Marketing at the Hamilton Arms Center of Lancaster. In the past, she worked in a variety of school districts as a German teacher.

Monica possessed an energetic, take-charge personality and was always happiest when she was cooking -- especially for a large gathering. She enjoyed traveling and sharing time with her family and many friends.

She was a lifelong member and tireless volunteer at the Lancaster Liederkranz, where she most recently served as a trustee. Following in her mother’s footsteps, Monica was often found in the club’s kitchen and over the years she was a member of the Liederkranz Chorus, the Alpenrose Schuhplattlers and led German language classes for club members. Additionally, Monica and her husband held leadership positions as members of the Oberbayern Folk Dance Group of York, PA.

In addition to her husband and daughter, Monica is survived by her sister, Heidi Holinowsky, and her favorite companions, her dogs, Schroeder and Bismarck. All of her other family members reside in Germany.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603 or the American Heart Association, 610 Community Way, Lancaster, PA 17603-2395.
