German-American community says goodbye to dedicated member, Gisela Kaempf

Gisela Kaempf

An active member of the German - American community, Gisela Kaempf of Chalfont, Pennsylvania died suddenly Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at Abington Memorial Hospital. She was 72 years old. Gisela was born July 8, 1938 in Ilsfeld, Germany, daughter of the late Alfred Fegert and the late Marta Fegert (nee - Schmidt).

Gisela is the beloved wife of Carl Kaempf. Mother of Ricky Kaempf and his wife Lisa and Conny Dougherty and her husband Gerry. Grandmother of Jessica and Madelyn Dougherty and Chloe Grube and her husband Nicholas and Holly Kaempf. Great grandmother of two grandsons. Sister of Irene Rudi and Trudl Lutz. She is also survived by her beloved Yorkshire Terrier Sophie.

Gisela was born and raised in Germany. Carl met Gisela while he was serving in the United States Army in Germany. They were married February 28, 1959. In April of 1959 Carl returned to the United States. Gisela emigrated from Germany to the USA in June of 1959. The family settled in Philadelphia and lived on Raymond Street in the Feltonville section of the city. Gisela completed her high school education at Olney High School. Her education continued at Delaware Valley Academy where she studied to be a Medical Assistant. Gisela’s medical internship was guided by Dr. J. Andrew Solis in Richboro, PA. After certification, Gisela stayed on with Dr. Solis for another 21 years as a Medical Assistant.

In her personal life, Gisela loved playing with her grandchildren and being involved in all aspects of their lives. She enjoyed singing and playing musical instruments; including the flute, accordion, recorder and keyboard. She also also enjoyed cooking, photography and sewing; which included making regular clothing, doll clothing for her grandchildren and dog clothing for her pets. Gisela was a “Jack of all trades.”

Gisela is a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Somerton and Cannstatter Volksfest Verein in Philadelphia. She was a longtime singer in Heimat Echo.

Relatives and friends are invited to her Viewing on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. and funeral service at 11:00 A.M. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, 14100 Worthington Road, Philadelphia, PA 19116. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Memorial Park, 333 West County Line Road, Feasterville, PA 19053.

Religious services will be conducted by Rev. Sönke R. Schmidt-Lange from Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church.
