Christmas Village in Philadelphia
Christmas Village in Philadelphia is an outdoor Holiday
market event
at
the west side of City Hall Philadelphia from Thanksgiving
through Christmas Eve which follows the example of a
traditional German Christmas Market. Vendors in more
than 50 wooden booths and two big tents sell European
food, sweets and drinks as well as international seasonal
holiday gifts, ornaments and high quality arts and crafts.
Thousands of lights at booths and trees integrate the
event into the scenery of the illuminated City Hall.
The municipal Christmas tree – lighted by Major Nutter
in the traditional tree lighting ceremony – as well
as our unique Christkindl-Photo wall and the central
stage will be attractions during the Holiday season
2011. The central stage will be the place for daily
live performances of local choirs, orchestras and bands.
On Saturday November 25 the original Nuremberger Christkindl
from Germany will open Christmas Village of Philadelphia
in a big opening ceremony. The following Saturdays will
be highlighted by special events and performances such
as German or International Days. Families will especially
appreciate visiting us at our Sunday Family days where
they can enjoy a nice carousel ride with fresh popcorn,
visit the face painter and clowns or tell Santa their
wishes in his little house. Christmas Village offers
its visitors a unique opportunity for shopping and enjoying
European specialties in a Christmassy atmosphere.
